Welcome to August, dear friends!
August has to be one of my favorite times of year. The warm days, the coming harvest, and Leonine energy of abundance and joy seem to permeate the atmosphere.
Unfortunately, in Central Oregon, August is also smoke season. While the wildfires throughout the West have been on my heart (and in my lungs), we are doing our best to keep our spirits bright as the solar lion shines upon us.
And, as you probably know…we have some big lion energy (hehe 🦁) coming up soon: The Lion’s Gate Portal.
During the Lion’s Gate Portal, the Earth, Sirius, the constellation Orion, and our Sun (in Leo the lion), all come into alignment. Though the energy lasts for around two weeks, it’s said to peak on 8/8.
Oh, and since we’re in an 8 year (2+0+2+4=8), the numerological energy of this day is magnified. The number 8 is associated with power, sex, and money — and, fun fact, the 8th card in the Tarot’s major arcana is Strength, a radiant, powerful card traditionally featuring a lion!
In many spiritual communities, this cosmic event is said to activate a celestial portal that allows our manifestations to take form more quickly. Yet long before modern mystics named the Lion’s Gate Portal, ancient Egyptians were celebrating their new year right around the same time — yes, the Egyptian new year was marked by the heliacal rising of Sirius.
